He begs and he pleads, but she is relentless! She finally changes to a smaller, whippier cane, but this is just as painful.

Stephen will do anything to get her to stop. He offers to double his rent if she will just let him go. Miss Roberts thinks about this for a moment, then decides that she will, indeed, double his rent - just as soon as she is finished caning him! "I'm not going to let you go until IÕm sure you've learned your lesson." Stephen howls in pain and humiliation until she is satisfied, and hastily agrees to pay his higher rent - on time!
